National Orchid Garden - Singapore

National Orchid GardenThe National Orchid Garden in Singapore features more than 700 species of orchids and is located on the highest hill in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The garden has some of the rare and exquisite varieties of plants and trees, and

boasts the largest orchid display in the world. It opened on 20 October 1995 and is distinctive for its design concept. Three hectares of land has been carefully landscaped to provide slopes for over 1,000 species and other hybrids on display.

The orchid garden has a dazzling collection of colorful orchids and the place is dedicated to the splendor of these gorgeous blooms. The place includes a variety of hybrid plants which are almost rare all over the world. There is an immense assortment of recent collections as well. The National Orchid Garden has an assembly of numerous Heritage trees and tropical orchids which make it unique and charming.

The design of the orchid garden presents the display of plants in four different color zones, each relating to a season. The ‘spring’ zone has bright and lively shades of yellow, gold and cream; the ‘summer’ zone sports strong tones of red and pink; ‘autumn’ zone has matured shades; and the ‘winter’ zone exhibits shades of white and blue. A careful blend of selected plants and orchids with matching foliage and floral colors develop the color zoning.

The garden introduces Singapore’s national flower and a diverse breed of stunning orchids. The hybrids found in the garden have been cultivated by an orchid-breeding program, which began in 1928.
